Once again it becomes my duty to say farewell to the members of another grad-
uating class. In the very short period of twenty-one years, Roslindale High has sent
forth hundreds of young men and women from its portals. Each of these has been
equipped with basic knowledges and skills in accordance with the particular course
of study chosen and pursued.

At no time since this high school started has a graduating class gone out to a
world of peace and tranquility. This is just as true today as it has been in each of
its previous years of existence.

It is not, therefore, unlikely that you look to the future with a certain degree of
fear as to the uncertainties of the world and as to your future success.

Fear is natural to the human heart. It can possess the most courageous of men.
The most decorated heroes admit that they were fearful in battle prior to the ex-
ploits or events that won for them the plaudits of an admiring world. Those who are
not remembered in song and story because of their fears were those whose appre-
hensions were based on actual cowardice.

Your uneasiness will not be based, however, on fears that have their roots in
cowardice. Yours springs from the salutary emotions that come from humility.
Humbly admitting that you are not possessed of all knowledge, you will seek paths
that will lead to the greater acquisition of learning, using your present basic prepar-
ation as a sure foundation to greater successes in life.

Placing your hopes in the Dispenser of all good things, work diligently and stead-
fastly. Trust in Him to lead you away from the crooked paths that will beset you
on your journey through life. With such faith and trust your lives will be calm and
success assured.

Herewith the Senior Council, which has labored long and quietly to save the Senior Class some
money! To this end to date, we have arranged the best prom for the least money, and later we
will arrange the best Class Day for the least money. Also, we have helped in reducing the cost of
this yearbook by assisting the Business Staff in securing ads from local merchants and by having
each councilor obtain a contribution from each senior homeroom for ads in this yearbook.

Class Will

Having been exposed for the past three years to a
certain degree of knowledge within this edifice of ed-
ucation, and having, at last, fulfilled this assigned
period of exposure, we, the Class of 1957, do now re-
joicingly cut out; departing with the earnest intent to
employ the vast knowledge which we have so diligently
absorbed and hence bring honor, glory, and great tame
(to which we are undoubtedly destined) to ourselves
and our beloved school.

As we depart from this our second home, we shall
carry forever with us the memory of our guards and
overseers — or, rather, our devoted teachers and ad-
visors, who gave us not only prudent counsel but also
valuable instruction. We, therefore, at our departure,
wish to bequeath certain appropriate tokens as our
humble endeavor to augment our cherished pupil-
teacher relations and a symbol of our unquestionable
appreciation. We forthwith submit the following be-
quests:

To Mr. Gately we leave our hearty thanks for his
guidance during the past three years.

To Miss Burke we leave a room filled with noiseless
office practice machines.

To Miss Burns we leave an electrically run elevator
chair for speedy transit from 104 to 204.

To Mrs. Clayton, our school nurse, we leave some
peppermint tongue depressors.

To Miss Cogan we leave a bell that rings automat-
ically three minutes before filing time.

To Miss Connor we leave a list of program changes.

To Miss Daly we leave an automatic coin-changer
and a king-size bank in which to save for that air-
conditioner.

To Miss Donahoe we leave a slow clock on the wall
for the 8:30 English classes.

To Mrs. Dunbar we leave a group of silent, single-
file marchers.

To Lt. Famulari we leave a twelfth general order —
"to be especially watchful in the gun-room." Dum-da-
dum-dum !

To Mr. Gabele we leave an automatic ventilating
machine to keep room 21 warm during the first period.

To Mr. Gleason we leave a set of blunt dissecting
kits for those blood-thirsty students.

To Miss Grandfield we leave a little friend who
helped us faithfully through our trig — THETA

To Mr. Grasso we leave a list of 100 prospective
yearbook ad buyers.

To Miss Guiney we leave our slightly used "Brag-
don" best-sellers for the use of future fortunate H8
classes.

To Miss Hamrock we leave an automatically con-
trolled "Robie Robot" so that she can get future year-
books out as scheduled.

To Miss Hanrahan and Miss Sullivan we leave a per-
manent fund for awards to their wonderful switch-
board operators.

To Miss Harrington we leave an honest-to-goodness

of a girls' sewing class to hang on the wall of the shop.

To Mrs. Helmer we leave a pair of white bucks.

To Mr. Kaner we leave a pair of rubber gloves to pro-
tect his hands while handing us our milk.

To Miss Keough we leave saluting.

To Mr. Landrigan we leave a year's supply of Smith
Brothers' cough drops so that he can survive in future
English classes. Ahem!

To Miss MacLeod we leave a tape recording of
a;sldkfjgh.

To Mr. Midman we leave an Art Class which was
"interesting" and had "possibilities."

To Mr. Murphy we leave a diagram for a forward-
upside-down-backward-inside-out roll.

To Miss Xeal we leave a new recipe for vanilla fudge
and a box of vitamin pills for her jack-in-the-beanstalk.

To Mr. O'Brien we leave a stool outside room 1 19 so
he won't get tired of watching out for the culprits who
go to their lockers between periods.

To Mr. Pickett we leave a year's supply of cubic
meter sticks and the sound advice: It's not the answer;
it's the way you do it.

To Miss Reilly we leave our sincere thanks tor teach-
ing us how to — thimk.

To Mr. Reynolds we leave a book entitled "How To
Put Over a Science Lesson In 40 Minutes" or "Why
Don't We Have Eighty Minute Periods?"

To Miss Stavrinos we leave a 12x12 inch picture of
Jose Greco and a sound recording of his Spanish

dancing.

To Miss Sullivan we leave a set of blinders to "Keep
your eyes on the book."

To Mrs. Sullivan we leave a snappy group ot Rossie
Rockettes.

To Miss Toland we leave a job well done on both the
"Tattler" and the "Transcript."

To Mr. Walsh we leave an automatic eye glass
changer.

To Miss Ward we leave a homeroom that always
puts away their lipsticks, mirrors, and combs without
being asked.

To Miss Wheland we leave a little Spanish villa in
room 207.

To the Junior boys we leave our neckties.

To the Junior girls we leave our shoes; we hope they
can fill them.

And in conclusion as we leave, bowing three times to
the east and bidding a final "salaam" before the bril-
liant Red and Gold shield of R.H.S., we do carry with
us one thing — the precious lamp of learning. This we
will always carry with us for we will always need it.
It will help us to remember our struggling days at
Rossie High and our friendly teachers who aided us in
the struggle.

This year our baseball team rolled up an astonishing
record of twelve wins and only one loss to gain undis-
puted possession of the District League Title.

Two of the team's members were picked for the Bos-
ton All-Star team. Charles Bennett, who led the league
in home runs with six, started at shortstop, and John
Conley, perhaps the best catcher in Boston High School
baseball, started behind the plate.

Brian Sullivan, who won seven games and lost none,
compiled the best pitching record in the District
League.

Congratulations to Coach Murphy and his squad.
